OPEN DAY for HOME EDUCATORS and their CHILDREN

Home Educators are invited to participate in a South African History Open Day at Livingstone House, Rondebosch. Wednesday, 30 May from 9am to 4pm. Authors Dr. Peter Hammond and Cuan Elgin will be giving a series of photo-rich presentations journeying through over 500 years of South African History.

Parallel Programmes for Both Parents and Children

While the parents are being inspired and equipped with inspiring character studies of heroes and heroines of South African History, a parallel childrens programme, including arts, crafts and educational games will be facilitated by artists Belinda Elgin and Marina Graser and missionaries of Frontline Fellowship. It will be a packed and productive schedule which will include the film, Andrew Murray – Africa for Christ.

Christian Character Studies

The presentations and children’s activities will focus on inspiring Christians in South African History including Jan Van Riebeek, Georg Schmidt, Wolraad Woltemade, Paul Kruger, David Livingstone, Andrew Murray, Danie Theron, General Christiaan De Wet, President Marthinus Steyn, General Koos De La Rey and Emily Hobhouse.

Arts, Crafts and Educational Games and Competitions

Some of the arts and crafts, which the children will be dealing with, will include: Colouring in of various flags of our history and crafts to help us understand the French Huguenots, 1820 Settlers and Voortrekkers. Important historic buildings, such as the Castle of Good Hope and important cultural songs will be taught. Prizes will be awarded for best art work and crafts produced.

History is His Story

History tells us what has worked and what has not. We need to develop the ability to recognise these lessons in every area of life. We need to discover our roots. In history we can see examples of excellence and illustrations of man’s depravity and rebellion against God and God's mercy, grace and Sovereignty in intervening in the course of human events. “…Now all these things happened to them as examples and they were written for our admonition…” 1 Corinthians 10:11
